In this candid interview with The New York Times, Carli Lloyd talks about Hope Solo’s suspension, Megan Rapinoe’s kneeling, and the possibility of a strike by the U.S. women’s team.

Lloyd, the team captain, says she’s talked with Rapinoe about her protests during the national anthem. She said she told Rapinoe, “It is a distraction. It is. … It consumed all nine days that we were together [for a pair of recent friendlies]. It consumed our staff and the players and all of us. At the end of the day, we want to play soccer.”

Lloyd added, however, “Megan and I are fine. … At the end of the day, we’re pros.”
