New world rankings: No change at the top

The latest world rankings were released Friday (June 24), with the top 10 unchanged from the previous list, which came out on March 25:

The rankings will next be updated on Aug. 26 — after the conclusion of the 2016 Summer Olympics.

The top-ranked U.S. women’s team has two remaining home games before heading to Brazil for the Olympics, which start Aug. 3. (The opening ceremony is Aug. 5, but the soccer tournament gets under way two days earlier.)

On July 9, Team USA plays South Africa in Chicago.

On July 22, the Americans play Costa Rica in Kansas City.

Neither tune-up should present a problem for the Americans, if rankings are a reliable indicator.

South Africa is 52nd in the world.  Costa Rica is 29th.
