Who should win the top player and top keeper awards?

The finalists for the Golden Ball (MVP) award are, in alphabetical order:

Saori Ariyosi of Japan
Lucy Bronze of England
Amandine Henry of France
Julie Johnston
Carli Lloyd
Aya Miyama of Japan
Megan Rapinoe
Celia Sasic of Germany

The finalists for the Golden Glove (Best Goalkeeper) are:

Nadine Angerer of Germany
Ayumi Kaihori of Japan
Hope Solo

The winners will be announced on Sunday, after the championship match.

I’d love to see Julie Johnston win, for the phenomenal performance turned in by the U.S. defense. Even more, I agree with Grant Wahl of Sports Illustrated that the real winner should be someone who’s not even a finalist, Becky Sauerbrunn.

But assuming the United States beats Japan in the final, the winner will almost surely be Carli Lloyd. And that’s hard to argue against.

As for the Golden Glove… Is there any point in discussing that?
